Step-by-Step Guide on Vision Work

We’ve all heard the phrase “visualization is key to success.” But what happens when you find yourself struggling to do vision work? Whether it’s due to a lack of direction, focus, or inspiration, sitting in the vision can be a difficult task. For me, I could never wrap my brain around vision work which always kept me from doing it. However, by taking the time to sit down with one vision question at a time and creating an action plan that involves utilizing all available resources, I was able to break through these barriers. So, let’s talk about how you can do the same and start to see your dreams come to life.

Step 1: Get Focused

The first step in working on your vision is to identify what that vision is. It can be easy to overwhelm ourselves, but you will get the best result when you focus on a specific question or goal that you want to work towards. This could be something as simple as “What big goal do I want to accomplish in five years?” or something more complex like “How can I start my own business?”

When I started vision work, there was one goal I had in mind that was very important to me. There was a trip that I really wanted to take to attend an event that would be incredibly impactful for me. The opportunity to attend was there, but the funds were another story. I knew that in order to make this happen, vision work was the best method to do so.

Step 2: Visualize

Once you have your question, it’s important to take the time to sit down and write out your thoughts or create a visual representation of your vision. For some people, writing out their vision may come naturally. They may find that journaling or creating a mind map is an effective way to organize their thoughts and goals. For others, however, a more creative approach may be necessary. This could involve creating a vision board or collage, using images and words that represent their desired outcomes. Vision boarding was what I used when it came to my event. For three years, my board had a representation of me hugging people at this event.

Regardless of the method you choose, the key is to spend time focusing on your vision question, allowing your mind to wander and explore different possibilities. Don’t be afraid to get specific with your goals, outlining the steps you need to take to achieve them. The more detailed your vision, the easier it will be to create an action plan that will bring you closer to your desired outcome.

Step 3: Take Action

Once you have your vision outlined, it’s time to start taking action. This is where utilizing all available resources becomes crucial. Many of us may feel like we have to go it alone when pursuing our goals, but the truth is that we have access to a wealth of resources that can help us achieve our dreams. This includes friends, family, mentors, and even the internet.

Start by reaching out to those in your personal network who may be able to offer guidance or support. Share your vision with them, and ask for their feedback or advice. They may have insights or experiences that can help you overcome obstacles or find new opportunities. This is exactly what I did for the event I needed to attend. Having that vision and that focus helped me get on the right path to finding an unlikely resource. This resource helped me fufill my vision after three years by attending this impactful event.
